Library & Piety Stall

Library
In 2002 St Agatha’s Library was inaugurated in its present form to enrich and renew the faith development of the parishioners and to serve the various ministries within the parish. Situated on the left of the front door of the church, it is open before and after each of the weekend masses.  Books are signed out and may be borrowed for a period of four weeks.

Piety Stall
The Piety Stall has a beautiful selection of religious items suitable as gifts for the significant sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation and major events in the Church calendar including Christmas and Easter. Additionally mass books, bibles and educational tools are available. Items can be ordered on request. The Piety Stall is located at the front of St Agatha’s Church.

Mother of Mercy Logo

Symbolism

The Father bestows mercy upon Mary at her conception; the Holy Spirit overshadows her at the Annunciation. She holds the Child Jesus in her arms as His mother, and He gazes upon her through His mercy as His most pure child.

No one has experienced mercy in the same way as Mary; she is uniquely linked with the mystery of the Cross – where Justice receives the ‘kiss of Mercy’.

Mary is turned always towards us as Mother, and at the same time, turned entirely towards her Son.

The logo is based on a cross and a medallion shape, reminding us that the whole mystery of mercy is synchronised with the mystery of redemption.

St Agatha’s Logo

Symbolism

St Agatha, the patron saint of the parish, is depicted in a stained glass window to the left side of the church’s entrance. As a virgin martyr, she holds the martyr’s palm and crown, with flames around her feet symbolising her intercession during the eruption of Mt Etna which resulted in the town being saved. Famed for the virtues of chastity, resilience under torture, and a bold and courageous faith, she is one of seven women martyrs named in the First Eucharistic Prayer during mass. The parish logo is taken from this stained glass representation of St Agatha.

St Agatha is the patron saint of Sicily, bellfounders, breast cancer patients, Palermo, rape victims, and wet nurses. Her intercession is often invoked against earthquakes, natural disasters, and fires.

St Agatha, pray for us
